And it's not really a spoiler, but you know how precious some people can be. This cat just had the ending of Shadowfever spoiled... Okay, so this is a romance novel. You pretty much know how they all end, right? Happily Ever After with lots of sex and pregnancy/babies. So far this is the only one I've read that HASN'T ended with pregnancy. All I can say is THANK YOU! What the hell is romantic about meeting a man and finding out a month later that you're pregnant? Or, according to a previous book, being pregnant with TWINS?! Twins. Two bodies. One soul. One very evil soul... I wouldn't wish twins on my worst enemy! Why do people think parenthood is romantic? Allow me to illuminate what parenthood basically is: "Harry, put your pants on." "No flashing your willy, Harry." "Put your willy back in your pants!" "Why are you crying?" "Do you want a drink?" "Why did you throw your drink on the ground?" "Why are you crying now?" "Are you sure you want a drink this time?" "Why did you throw your drink on the ground AGAIN?!" "Do you need to go potty?" "Are you sure?" "Why is there stinky poo in your pants?" "WHY IS THERE STINKY POO ON MUMMY'S WALLS?!" "No mummy doesn't want to kiss the shark anymore." "I'm sorry, mummy will kiss the shark now." "Why did you hit mummy with the shark?" "You can have ONE train." "No. One." "Now you broke the train." "Why are you crying?! You're the one who broke the train!" "Okay, mummy fixed the train." "Why are you crying?" "Well then you shouldn't have broken the train, AGAIN!" "Where's mummy's phone?" "No, that's not mummy's phone, that's a carrot." "Why is mummy's phone in the veggie keeper?" "Do you want to watch thomas?" "No, mummy doesn't want to watch Aristocats again." "Because mummy will do bad things if she watches Aristocats. AGAIN." "Fine, we'll watch Aristocats." "No mummy's not crying." "Don't run away!" "No, mummy said not to run away!" "It's not funny!" "Come back!" "Thank you, stranger, for returning my beloved child." "You are in so much trouble!" "Do you want some cheese for lunch?" "Okay, here's your cheese!" "Why did you throw your cheese on the ground?" "But this is mummy's cheese!" "It's exactly like the cheese she gave you!" "Fine, have mummy's cheese." "WHY DID YOU THROW MUMMY'S CHEESE ON THE GROUND?" "No, don't touch that." "No, don't touch that." "No, don't touch that." "No, don't touch that." "No, don't touch that." "No, don't touch that." "No, don't touch that." "No, don't touch that." "No, don't touch that." "I TOLD YOU NOT TO TOUCH THAT!!!!!!!!!!!" Rinse. Repeat. Do it all again tomorrow. Do you want to know the truth? Children are evil. Now, I wouldn't go quite so far as to say that they're little Stewies in the making. Though I won't dismiss the theory... But babies do three things from the moment they're born. 1) Struggle to learn their mother-tongue so that they can use the same word, 'No!', over and over again. 2) Struggle to learn to move, walk and run so that they can throw things at you and then run away while cackling with fiendish laughter. 3) Study you to learn your weaknesses. They don't have anything else to do! They eat, sleep and poop and they're learning how to bring you down and crush your spirit while doing all three of those tasks - all the while knowing that if you ever chose to, you could crush them with your giant adult fists. Look at that... pure, malevolent evil... And yet, people still procreate, why? There are childless people reading this right now. And I bet you. I BET you that they will probably still have children despite everything that I have said. You know why? WHY?! Because either they think I'm exaggerating and "it won't be THAT bad!" Or they're cocky little bastards who think that, "Sure, kids CAN be like that. But not mine. MY kids will be fantastic." Yes. You keep thinking that. That's what I thought too. Certificate III in childcare and a childhood development course and I thought I would be Mummy Extraordinaire. My best friend, who is a trained and practising Child Psychologist, thought so too. She thought I never saw her look of contempt at my screaming child and that I couldn't see the idea as plain as day in her head, "Well, MY child won't do that!" Hahahaha! I got the last laugh on that one, bitch! ITS WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO THINK! There is NOTHING romantic about having babies. Nothing. You will get a massive belly, need to pee all the time. Then you will go through childbirth and while recovering from this "experience" you will be tending a newborn. You will bleed constantly for six weeks while your nipples leak and you can't remember the last time you got a good night's sleep. Your hormones will trick you into thinking your grandpa-faced little newborn is beautiful and people will lie to you because they realize that with the birth of your child has begun your decent into insanity. People will coo over your child who will be perfectly well-behaved until they bugger off and then you're left alone with a screaming infant WHO CAN'T BE REASONED WITH! Yes, I love my son, he's the light of my life, blah de blah, blah. But I can't take anymore of these Happily Ever After WITH BABIES endings! Why can't we have Happily Ever After, with a lot of money, sex and freedom to travel the globe, eat in expensive restaurants and have even MORE sex except this time on the kitchen floor, endings? No. Instead we get this: The little jerk... I keep ending these novels with super-happy couples petting their lovely pregnant bellies and all I can think is, "Poor bastards! Don't even know what they're in for..."

Now, in each bowl add a seriously intelligent woman who's not affraid to believe in the impossible. Mix some more, for the ingredients have to fall in love. Are they in love yet? Yes? Stop mixing and pour it in the mold, then to the oven because they need to be extra HOT for a while. Are they sizzling and burning up the pages? Yes? Get them out, now they are ready to be read. And the reading will be absolutely delicious! This is a story of the second brother, Dageus. In the previous book, he goes back in time to prevent the death of his brother, and because he used his power for selfish reasons, he became the vessel for 13 most evil druids that existed. He became dark. Chloe is an antiquitarian (or something like that XD) and has to deliver a translation of an ancient book to some unknown rich guy. That turns out to be Dageus. After she discovers he is the famous thief who steals books, Dageus must keep her locked in his apartment, because he can't risk being arrested. Every day, he slips more and more into the dark, and is at his end trying to find a solution to break the curse. Chloe - another virgin in need of a cherry-picker (I mean, what's up with that? Is every girl in this series a freaking virgin???) she is very intelligent, and knows her antiques and ancient languages :) She is seriously attracted to Dageus, and even though he kept her locked in his room for a while, she ends up helping him in the search for other books that might explain how to return the 13 druids back to where they came from. Dageus - He's one of the sexiest characters I've read. I just want to him heheh A Scottish Highlander gone dark, tortured hero, who only finds himself through sex, I mean wow He actually needs his sex therapy, it keeps him from embracing the dark druids in him. And MAN. Was he hot! The foreplays were steaming, and the first sex, my oh my, I kinda got the feeling he's quite into domination, and boy :O HOT! Ok now that I said HOT about a million times, I can go on XD Loved the rest of his character too XD He's alienated himself from his family, the further from Scotland he is, the more peace he can find. But he's losing time, soon the druids will take over him, and then there would be world destruction and he must not allow that to happen. They were lovely together and I love the fact that they were actually together for a good part of the book, not being separated by villains or some other stupid sh*t. The most beautiful moment in the book is when Chloe takes his hand when he tells her he and his brother are not in good terms, I just have to put it here: "A few moments later, she slipped her wee hand into his. He tensed, startled by the gesture. He was accustomed to women reaching for many parts of him, none of them his hand. He glanced at her, but she was staring straight ahead. Yet her hand was in his. He closed his fingers around hers before she might snatch it away. Her wee hand was nearly swallowed by his. It meant more to him than kisses. More even than bedplay. When women sought him for sex, it was for their pleasure. But Chloe's small hand had been given without taking." beautiful So I loved this book, it had everything, a great story, a tortured hero, a smart heroine, sensuality to burn the pages and then some XD <3 Moving on to the next

In order to save his brother and allow him to re-unite with his true love, Dageus did the unthinkable and traveled back in time to save Drustan’s life. He now wages an internal battle against the evil that will inevitably consume him and wreak havoc on the world. Chloe walks into his life and “under” his bed and wreaks havoc with his heart! Dageus feels the pull of the evil within him, but like the true hero he is, he fights it, keeps it at bay and does it with his “Chloe-lass” at his side. OMG…every time he called her that….swoon!! These Highlanders with their Scottish brogue and unique take on words and phrases just melt me into a puddle of goo! He is so charming, has a darky delicious bad-boy air about him, but wears his heart on his sleeve, and “toops” with un-relenting passion! RAWRRRRRR!! Chloe might be tiny in stature, but she’s big on heart, determination and burns up the meadow, pond, sheets…whatever with Dageus and the love that they have for each other makes their “bedplay” all the more sweet. ”This thief covets but one priceless treasure: You.” We get to see our favorite characters from Dageus’ past and present life when he brings Chloe to his homeland and travels back in time. Silvan and Nell’s story had a huge presence and impact in the book. Absolutely freakin’ wonderful!! The time spent with Drustan and Gwen was like being with old friends and seeing the life they are living just warmed me to my toes… *sigh* !! The Dark Highlander is rich in dialogue, offers a captivating, heartwarming story, and an ending that is guaranteed to satisfy romance lovers everywhere!! I can’t recommend this book enough! Thank you again to Kristen for knowing what I needed and encouraging me to read this book!

5 Delicious stars! Dageus finds himself cursed with evil Druid spirits, after saving his brother's life, by using time travel for personal reasons, which is forbidden by Druid law. And the only woman that can save him is Chloe his fated bride. Chloe is sweet and I adored her strong will and determination to save her warrior. Dageus oozes sexuality from the very first page and is everything you could want in an alpha male. He's dangerous with a wild heart, in a body of a jaded man. "I'm going to lo 5 Delicious stars! Even if you have not read the previous Highlander books by Moning, this is a must-read book if you are a "fever" series fan. That's because Dageus, the main character of the book, plays a vital role in the last 3 books of the "Fever" series, ie. He is inhabited by the souls of 13 ancient evil druids (Draghar) as a panishment for using his power to go back in time in order to save his brother, Drustan. The spirits are behaving themselves only if Dageus is having constantly sex. The book starts with him living in New York, searching like crazy for a cure for his condition. There he meets Chloe, a student who is drawn to his world. He kidnaps her and he convice her to help him. Together they are visiting Scotland and his brother Drustan and they go back in time to meet his father Silvan. A great love is born between them.

Another great book by KMM! :) It wasn't as funny as the previous books in the series, but that was expected - the title 'The Dark Highlander' was a dead giveaway. As many readers before me - and many others after, I'm sure -, I'm in love with Dageus! How could I not fall for a hero whose fault is "to love too much"? As many readers before me - and many others after, I'm sure -, I'm in love with Dageus! How could I not fall for a hero whose fault is "to love too much"? I confess I was a bit turned off by his firt appearance, (view spoiler)[because I don't like seeing "my" heroes having sex with anyone else but the heroine, (hide spoiler)] but KMM made me forget that pretty fast. As the story progressed, Dageus proved to be one of the best heroes I've met, always placing the ones he loved above himself, and I could really feel how much he loved Chloe. I loved Chloe too, in a different way. Her curiosity and love for ancient artifacts proved to be a good thing, since that got her in Dageus's arms, or better, bed. :) She tried to be very nononsense about everything she got to see and experience around him (like when she first woke up in the 16th century) but, at the same time, she could act rather impulsively (like when she decided to go to Scotland with Dageus - not that he would've had it any other way, but she didn't know that). She was responsible for one of the funniest and sweetest scenes I've ever read, when she decided to practice her ILY in front of a "mirror". I loved it! :) As for the story, Dageus's quest for a way to get rid of the 13 "black" Druids who possess his soul kept me trying to guess his next move all the time. When Drustan and Gwen's proposed "solution" turned out to be ineffective, the only way out I could see was his dying - and that wouldn't be acceptable! Obviously, KMM came up with a valid way to save Dageus in the end, but the events that led to it had some "not so smart" moves by Dageus and Chloe. I won't say they ran into "TSTL territory", but it was a close call. (view spoiler)[I mean, one should never try to run alone to face an unknown enemy, right? When Dageus decided to ditch the careful plans he and Drustan had made, I actually paused and sighed... Then, I gave it some thought and realized it was OK for him to act like that. That behavior was actually consistent with his character: he just loved his brother "too much" to risk his life. Now, Chloe following Dageus alone wasn't so easy to excuse, but I guess I could blame it on the fact that she had just woken up in the middle of the night and wasn't thinking clearly. Another thing that bothered me was Silvan saying that Dageus was his favorite son. And Nellie loved him better too, even though she was "polite" enough not to say it out loud. What was the point of that?!? It only made me want to scream "I love Drustan!", LOL. (hide spoiler)] All things considered, I really loved this book and will keep reading the series. Note: I had a hard time pondering how to rate this book. As soon as I finished it, I decided I was going to give it a 5-star rating, but was it worth a DIK status? It all came to the question whether I'd be able to overcome Chloe's "reckless" behavior and Silvan's remark, and I just can't.

I have not read any of the others in this series, but this reads fine as a stand-alone. This is the story of Dageus (the "dark" one with the evil Druid spirits possessing him) and Chloe and their HEA. I think I did a few times. This is flat out B-O-R-I-N-G and has all the romance tropes present. This was written in 2002, but it's still got that cheesy 90s romance vibe going on. This pretty much sums up the book: I think I'm just WAY over this kind of romance. His mental shields keep the 13 at bay, but just barely and Daegus can only find relief when he is inside a woman. Chloe, a self-proclaimed nerd and lover of antiques finds herself the victim of that old saying, “Curiosity killed the cat.” When sent to Mr. MacKeltar’s New York apartment to drop off a parcel, Chloe lets her curiosity get the best of her and she gets caught red-handed when Daegus comes home, finding a woman searching beneath his bed. Her punishment doesn’t seem all that terrible though, because the gorgeous hunk of manflesh ties her to his bed and feeds her delicious meals. Chloe was an easy heroine to like. I loved her passion for her work. Anything old with a history sparked something inside of her. She’s someone who would rather spend time researching than anything else. She had many endearing qualities and characteristics. Her nervous hiccups, that stubborn lift of her chin, and the endless love she had for Daegus despite her not knowing everything about the mysterious Scot. She takes many leaps of faith, trusting Daegus only when she’s known him for such a short period of time. Speaking of time, the time-travel in this one is perfect. Again. I wish Moning continued with this series. While she has made her name with her Fever series, she is a master at meshing two hearts together into one. And there’s Daegus who, simply put, is sex. I swooned so much through this book, I grew faint. At least give me some time to recover between bated breaths. Favourite Quote: “I am going to love you now, slow and sweet, but when you come, I'm going to fuck you the way I need to. The way I've been dreaming about since the moment I saw you.”

Demicek tabii. Ama sorun şu, Dageus öperken kızı bağlıyor yatağa gidemeyeceksin diyor. Kız kitapları gördü ya, polisle uğraşamam diye salmıyor Chloe’yi. Gerçi bu bir sorun mu bilemedim şu an. Neyse.

The Dark Highlander begins with Dageus alone in 20th century Manhattan desperately searching for a way to free himself from the 13 evil spirits taking up residence within his body for breaking an ancient pact for personal gain. But he's not alone long, after intrepid Chloe Zanders takes it upon herself to investigate the artifacts spread throughout Dageus's palatial home while making a less than routine delivery. Chloe has no idea that she's just changed her world forever and that the man who holds the key to ancient Celtic artifacts recently gone missing also holds the key to her heart. It will take them both to set The Dark Highlander free once and for all but can they do it before Dageus gives in to the darker urges pressing in on him, which will loose the darkness on the unsuspecting world and bring about cataclysmic destruction? These two books, along with the final book in Moning's popular Highlander series (Spell of the Highlander) are by far my favorites. The men are sexy and in Dageus's case, extremely duressed, yet show all the noble characteristics we love in a romance novel hero. Strong in mind and spirit, Dageus knows his time is short and he's barely keeping the evil within him under control- until he meets the woman who will save his life. He doesnt know this of course, but he does know he needs to protect her, even from himself. Yet Chloe is too clever and curious by far and when she finds out what's really going on-matches him every way! Perfect H/h and hot romance at its best. Dont miss it! (Dageus is definitely a precursor to another popular character in Moning's Fever series- if you cant get enough of Barron's read this book- plus it gives some subtle clues as to what's going on in the Fever world!)

Never has "corny as hell" made such an amusing impact on my constant judgmental ways to romance as this book has. First, I oogle the Goodwill book section itching for some fun romance on 50% Off Day - and what did I get? Nothing. Ziltch. Nadda. When upon looking closer a book did stick out to me. This one. First, I oogle the Goodwill book section itching for some fun romance on 50% Off Day - and what did I get? Nothing. Ziltch. Nadda. When upon looking closer a book did stick out to me. This one. I rolled my eyes at the thought of even thinking about getting this - in my eyes "just another time traveling Scotsman/Viking/English Gentleman novel" - which by the bye, is indeed in fact just that. However, no one really told me how much I was missing out on these incredibly ridiculous supernatural scenarioed (yes, I'm going to make up words while I'm here) novels. This book had me making several sound effects I didn't think I could muster while reading: chortling, sputtering and luckily all turning into a good amount of giggle fits of laughter. If you're looking for a good "me Tarzan, you Jane" book, then you'll love this. Of course the main super-hero, Dageus MacKaltar, has a little more to him than that, which you learn gradually through-out the book (all the while being extremely amused at how well you can muster a Scottish accent in your own mind). What had me rolling over with laughter was the way our heroine, Chloe Zanders, takes us through her own thoughts and ways of "being", per se. She's a complete book-worm. Loves her artifacts (especially Celtic). A complete innocent with a good bit of wit, charm and naivety, and the cute bonny Scot look to boot. Which all makes for a good dose of "opposites attract" in the case between our two main characters. Dageus MacKaltar is an enigma. He's been keeping himself emotionally in check ever since he unleashed 13 evil Druid souls into his body, all because what was perceived by a supernatural pact his family made thousands of years ago, as a selfish act. He's cut himself off from his family, keeping a secure life as a extremely wealthy Manhattanite, who has some exceeding tastes in Scottish artifacts. His problem is that the only things that keeps the evil at bay is carnal desire... Chloe Zanders works as a co curator for her old medieval history teacher in Manhattan. One of the precious artifacts they behold is now being given to a man who made some exceedingly nice donations to her employers. Her seemingly easy task to deliver it turned out to be a lot different than what she expected... With their lives now undoubtedly intertwined, will Chloe be able to hold on to her innocence, or will this gorgeous womanizing Scot have his way with her? Can Dagues keep the demons at bay while holding feeling for this new flame?... Find out in The Dark Highlander. Okay, not bad. Right? Anyway, read the damn book. If this is your thing, you'll love it. If it's not your thing, hey you may be like me and be thoroughly turned. If not, your missing out on some interesting supernatural and whole heartedly amusing fun.

Eesh was this book bad and I was so looking forward to the dark and mysterious Dageus MacKelter. It rates up there with the first book in the series Beyond the Highland Mist . Yet another formulaic KMM Highlander read, which can happen in a series, but I really felt like I was rereading parts of Kiss of the Highlander all over again. This book though has to be the worst so far in terms of excessive over the top filler narration. Just pages and pages of the stuff adding to the boredom. This book though has to be the worst so far in terms of excessive over the top filler narration. Just pages and pages of the stuff adding to the boredom. The story goes that Dageus the Druid left his medieval Scotland via time travel magic to the present day US in an effort to save the world. Initially he used time travel to help his brother be with the woman he loves (ref book 4) which got him into heaps of trouble with the fairies who pretty much rule the world from afar. The bigger problem is that having done this he now has a bunch of evil Druids living inside him biding their time until he goes wacko to take over the world. To calm down the nasty Druids he has to have a lot of sex. He traipses around town stealing/borrowing Scottish relics and museum pieces hoping to discover how to rid himself of the curse. This is how he meets the very, very, very TSTL Chloe. Another brilliant mind who does and says the most idiotic things contrary to how the character is set up. This must be a trend of sorts for KMM because I can’t really say I’ve liked any of her genius/ditz heroines. They’re too clingy, cloying and unsure of themselves to the point where you just want to holler “for god’s sake get a life already sister!” Their phony bravado also grates on the nerves. Then there’s Dageus. The author does pique your interest in book 4 and holds it for the first few pages of book 5 but then we’re back to the cookie cutter romance where nothing really original happens. There are some funny moments when the flustered Chloe meets Dageus for the first time and he holds her prisoner but that’s not enough to make for an enjoyable read for me. There’s also too much info on Scottish fairy legend that could’ve been put in an author’s note at the end of the book because it just took away from the story. As for the steam, it’s alright but Chloe just went gushingly overboard with her feelings for Dageus all of a sudden while he’s unsure and then sure and then unsure round and round we go. Some of the characters from the previous book also make an appearance. Drustan and Gwen return with Gwen playing the role of the “ever knowing wife” who passes out advice 24/7 on men and how to handle them (cue the gawwd and eye rolling) :-/ Overall I found the story way too long, ooey-gooey, awww look how nice and happy everyone is. I like a good HEA but I don’t like the ones with the sticky sweet shiny happy people at the end. This book barely makes a 3 star rating for me.

I really loved this book. A lot. I can see why it's a fan favorite. It lacked the humor that was in Kiss of the Highlander, but that's to be expected considering the title and premise of the book. I fell head-over-heels in love with Dageus right from the start. His character was multidimensional and fascinating. I could feel his internal struggles and his deepest longings. Chloe is one of my favorite heroines. Her character was delighful and fun to read. I definitely recommend this book.

The hero, Dageus MacKeltar have ended up in a modern-day New York. He's a highlander from the sixteenth century who suffered a cruel punishment and fights against a black darkness. By chance he one day meets, the curious antiques expert Chloe Zanders. He wants her and will not let her disappear from his side - or bed? This amazing story begins ... “Hard. Fast. Deep. When I'm done you'll know you're mine.” This is a journey through time and the tension is high throughout the book. What I really liked is that everything isn't predictable, even if I as a reader, in my heart, is confident that it will end well. It's about a smart, funny, modern woman and a big, well shaped and quite dangerous Highlander. He is just gorgeous and I like them both. "I love you, I love you, I love you. I love you more than chocolate. I love you more than the whole world is big." She paused, thinking, searching for a way to explain what she felt. "I love you more than artifacts. I love you so much it makes my toes curl just thinking about it." I must admit that sometimes it's some difficult words and expressions, and I had to re-read passages relating to the ancient cult a few times. My old-time Scottish is not the best. But it doesn't matter, I'm always most interested in the love story. ...and that was a wonderful one. It's sweet, funny, sad, happy, steamy ~ you name it... It was of course also very fun to get a glimpse of Dageus brother Drustan and his wife Gwen's life in Scotland. Which brothers - two perfect heros and lovable men - I adore them. A great joy to read. I will certainly with pleasure read more novels from this series. All in all; well written and romantic with an interesting plot I Like - a lovely tale with an amazing hero

I stopped reading romance novels decades ago because their formula is just irritating as hell. And as romance novels go, this wasn't the worst. But it's still the standard formula. It was ok. The plot was good. But there were lots of things that didn’t work for me. I like inner monologues but I don’t know why this ones inner monologue sometimes bore me out. What I understand from the previous plot and the blurb is that this book would be a partial dark story but I didn’t feel any darkness. This book was not entirely safe. The author explained the reason behind his whoring during one of his many inner monologues so the author could have avoided that OW sex screen. “It makes the darkness ease. When I begin to feel cold and detached, for some reason bedding a wench makes me feel human again. Naught else seems to work.” But after meeting the heroine he was celibate. He chooses to accept the darkness rather than going to OW. She was his mate and, for however long the gods granted, he would belong to his woman completely.

Yes. This is my life now. I have become a romance novel junkie. I'm not sure what exactly happened to cause such a major shift in what I am willing to read, but it happened. I REALLY LIKED THIS BOOK They say the first step to getting help is to admit that you have a problem so here goes... Daegus's actions toward Chloe in this book are just awful. It's a kinda rapey scene despite readers being clued into her inner monologue about how hott she thinks Daegus is and that she wanted him to chase her??? Again, I totally get why this would not be someone's style of book, but dammit if I didn't just gloss over all of those parts that were totally upsetting my inner feminist. Alright, I give this one 3 stars cos of the plot. It was interesting to a point. But I feel like Dageus' story suffered a lot because of it. And that is why I'm left a little disappointed & ALOT wanting where his story is concerned. Let me attempt to explain myself... He's supposed to be the dark one right? The one fighting the intense forces of the 13 within him that no mortal man could possibly deny right? So why don't I see or feel all these things I'm being told are there? And what's with the glossed over sex scenes? Really? All that build up for this? Needs to be hotter. Sadly my opinion didn't change. The circumstances that lead you to Dageus & his story, the possibilities I should say, were much more intriguing than the actual reveal of them. I missed the struggle. That dark, intense decadence that should have been present throughout the telling of Dageus' story. The immense pressure, uncertainty, & fear that should have been there wasn't. And I feel this too coincided with how he and Chloe related to one another & how their love would blossom. The very glossed over, barely touched coupling of these two, didn't help this story either and I'm not just speaking about the physical aspects. While there was a promise of this early on in the beginning, it just didn't deliver when the time came. When it comes to what we are told is at stake here. In Drustan's book & this one as well, that was more compelling than what we get here with the journey, answers, & resolution. Everything we are given goes no deeper than the surface. In comparison to the issues & what we actually got in the journey/reveal it just seemed so... Superficial. Simple. And this is why I've been found wanting. This book is a good filler for the moving along of certain plots within this series to get you to the next chapter in this world. For that alone, I would recommend this read. Especially if you are following the series in order. But coupled with the telling of Dageus & his mate Chloe, it's not well balanced & their story within this story, suffers greatly for it.

OOOOOOOOH I'm in love!!! Dageus!!!... and Chloe... but HOLY CRAP DAGEUS!!!! Druid MacKeltar Dageus goes back in time to prevent the fire that kills his twin and as punishment for using the White Bridge for "selfish" reasons gets 13 new room-mates in him. Sounds nice right? but no they are the are the prophesied dark being who hate the Fae who imprisoned them. So slowly they are chipping away at Dageus' good side to break out and go loose on our world. The only thing keeping Dageus together is LO OOOOOOOOH I'm in love!!! The only thing keeping Dageus together is LOTSA tooping and a lovely Lass Chloe who appears at his apartment... nice meeting finding a pair of legs sticking from under your bed digging through your MAGNUM!!! sized condom boxes and ladies underwear lol. Chloe although scared of Dageus in beggining falls in love with him and joins him in his mission to save him (at the beggining w/o realizing). She leaps without looking and thankfully ends up in pleasant places... like meadows, rivers, beds... And ofcourse we get to see our Daddy Keltar with his new wife & Brother Keltar with Gwen (seriously WHEN IS SHE GOING TO POP?) This has been the best read of the series so far! I have no idea how Adam Black's story will top this one. PS: I FINISHED FIRST... WHEEEE... That is a first :P to Jamie & Sultan

I love this series! Once again, another hot, steamy and oh, so romantic book. Heavy sigh… This has got to be my favorite book of the series so far. The Dark Highlander is the story of Dageus MacKeltar and his “wee lass” Chloe Zander. Dageus used his Druid magic to save his twin brother Drustan from death and as a result, he became a Dark Druid. Dageus is seeking the manuscript that will help him remove the curse. Chloe stumbles into Dageus’ world. Dageus is physically attracted to her, as she is to him, but she denies her feelings at first. I do like how Ms. Moning portrays her female characters. Chloe is sweet, stubborn, smart, and a little nerdy – especially when it comes to any kind of Scottish artifact or manuscript. There are some great cultural references in the book. Chloe keeps comparing Dageus to Angel or Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Dageus even brings Chloe some of her favorite hot and steamy romance novels - The Highlander's Touch. Of course, what kind of Highlander book would it be without time travel? It was great seeing Silvan and Nell once again. I laughed, I cried, I sighed, and I want to read the next book right now!

Ahhh...how can I sum this book up in one word? Daegus! Dark, Arousing, Erotic, Giving, Unorthodoxed, Sensual.... The main character in this book is a cursed highlander that embodies each of those words. He is one of the few heros from a book that has stayed with me long after reading it. He is a troubled soul with a good heart who finds love where he least expects it. It makes it sooo much better.)When its all said and done you will have had a moment in time well spent and thoroughly satisfying!!!

3.5 stars. Fans of Moning's Fever series are going to like this one. So far, The Dark Highlander has felt the most like a crossover between the two series. Even though this series pre-dates Fever, I find myself enjoying it even more knowing the connection between the two. I'm glad that I read Fever first. This book was a rare treat in the world of highlanders and time travel. I was pleased that the time travel went both ways between present day and the 16th century. Dageus was definitely my favorite of all the Highlanders so far. How do you not like a man that is as comfortable in a 16th century kilt as he is in a modern day clothes? He is able to flawlessly adapt between the two worlds. Even better is the story of his dark past, leaving him shrouded in mystery to the young Chloe Zanders. I'm not a fan of waist length hair, but hey, I'll give it a pass in this instance. At least it's black hair, so I'm shielded from any bad mental Fabio images (*shudders with dread*). Can't wait to see Dageus make his appearance in Moning's final installment of the Fever series, Shadowfever. I'm anticipating an interesting MacKeltar clan crossover!
